Joseph Ramirez is a 22-year-old aspiring robotics engineer from Downey, CA. He joined an engineering club in high school and has participated in 9 competitions regarding robotics, aerospace, and ocean science. Joseph now participates in the MATE ROV competition and mentors a high school team. Through FIO’s Peerside Program, Joseph got to see what working with an industrial ROV is like, thanks to the partnership with Pelagic Research Services. He shadowed a crew through the maintenance, launch, operation, and recovery of Taurus, the R/V Western Flyer’s newest ROV. Joseph is looking forward to finishing college, entering the ocean engineering industry, and exploring our oceans.
